"In Battlefield 1942, you will experience the heat of battle as you heroically storm the beaches of Normandy, drive a tank across the deserts of northern Africa, pilot a fighter plane during the Battle of Midway, command a battleship at Guadalcanal, or parachute and commandeer a jeep in operation Market Garden." Classes: Battlefield 1942 features a unit with five classes.
  • Assault - This soldier is the all-purpose "grunt". He carries an assault rifle, pistol, knife, and grenades.
  • Anti-tank - This soldier handles the "take downs" of armour vehicles. He carries anti-tank weapons, pistol, knife, and grenades.
  • Medic - "Murphy! Murphy!" This one is obviously the "healer" in the unit. He carries medi packs, sub machine gun, pistol, knife, and grenades.
  • Engineer - Then there is this trooper who acts as the "mechanic" and fixes damaged vehicles, as well as plant explosives. He carries rifle, pistol, knife, mines, and detonation packs.
  • Scout - Finally there is the unit's sniper/recon. The unit's eyes and ears by means of the binoculars. He calls for artillery strikes. He carries a sniper rifle, pistol, knife, and grenades.
